This was taken as we pulled off the highway, we had to plow our way in! The snow was up to 3 feet deep! We expected a large drift(like normal) in front of the barn but not the whole parking lot and part of the sidewalk! But after 2 hours of going back and forth in the truck it's all cleared away.

A little(ha!) snow won't stop us from having a SALE! We've (I should say my husband) have dug out the Nest from more snow than we've ever seen there and we are ready for the Sale Friday!

Everything in the store is on sale! We have many items that are 50% off or more and everything else is at least 20% off. So now is the time to come out and save cuz we won't have another Sale like this until July!

Wow I hadn't realized it had been soooo long since my last post. Time has just flown by and I am still trying to catch up! Why is there always one more thing on top of all those other one more things????

I am sure many of you locals are wondering just when is The Nest going to be open again(at least I hope so!). Well, we are preparing for a Huge Clearance Sale on February 4th and 5th. We are ready to get rid of the old, so we can start Spring out with a Fresh Look, Fresh Merchandise & Fresh ideas just for you! So once the sale is over we will be doing some much needed cleaning and give the Nest a little facelift then come April we will be ready to hatch our refreshed Nest!!! A little peek into my home...

This is one of my favorite displays in my home right now. And before I decorated for Fall I thought I would share it with you! The buffet has been in my husband's family for years. I finally painted it black & it really came to life. The window really started this, it is such a focal point. I purchased it from my friend, Barb, of Cross Creek Antiques in Fairfax, Ia. If you haven't been to her shop you are missing out on a real treat! So inspiring...you can find her blog, Simply Iowa, under my favorites list. All of the items have special meaning to me, whether it be family trinkets, special things I collected from favorite places or things I actually brought home from the shop. Special sewing items collected from my grandmother's sewing machine.

Well, I love this too! The dress form was purchased from a sweet girl that has an amazing vision. I have several of her pieces.

I love this weathered bowling pin. I have had it for years.

I will try to continue to give little looks into my home as time goes on. Many of you have always wondered how it is decorated but I must admit it is always that last place that gets my decorating attention. The store always seems to come first!

I hope you all had a wonderful May Day! I am not sure if many of you acknowledge it but it brings back such fond childhood memories for me. I had such fun making & delivering my May Baskets to my Mom & Grandmother. The thrill of sneaking to the door to leave the handmade paper cone full of flowers(usually violets or dandelions) for them to find & Mom always acting so surprised! :) Today my daughter & I delivered our quickly made paper cones filled with freshly picked Lily of the Valley. She had alot of fun leaving them on their door handles & then hiding but couldn't wait to jump out & give out hugs once their doors were answered! I captured this photo of the Alliums just beginning to bloom today. They were started by my husband's grandmother many years ago & just continue to seed themselves anywhere they wish. I just love them! Normally the Flowering Almond bush is blooming at the same time which makes the garden even more beautiful. But everything is blooming early this year & it just got done showing off it's blooms(sorry I forgot to take a picture), the same goes for the bleeding heart that was unbelievably huge this year. But it doesn't matter because these really do steal the show on their own!
This rusty old wagon was my husband's grandmother's. She used it to haul everything but it finally had to be retired after one of it's back wheels fell off. I just love it filled with pansies & old broken pots greeting everyone that walks up the sidewalk.

Thought I'd give you a little peek of what you'll see at the Open House next week. I have totally reworked the store & I am loving how it's turning out! Our live plants arrived this week...angel vine, variegated ivy, dwarf euonymus, & a couple ivy topiaries. Huge changes are happening at The Nest. Beginning in April we will now only be open 4 DAYS A MONTH! Yes, you read that right, 4 days a month. Typically called "occasional sales", we will change it up every month for you with great new & vintage goods. I have enjoyed the last 7 years that we have been in business & this was a very difficult decision to make but my heart was telling me this was the right path to take. Thanks to all of the wonderful customers/friends that have supported us over the years & I hope you continue to follow us on this new & exciting journey we are taking.

I've been gathering loads of cool "stuff" just for you & here's a little hint of what you will find this month. AND DON'T FORGET, MOTHER'S DAY IS COMING UP SOON. WE HAVE SOME GREAT GIFTS JUST FOR HER! We just picked up a load of garden iron-armillaries, lots of different garden stakes, bird feeders, cast iron critters, topiaries & more. Some amazing new home decor arrived this week - lanterns, birdcages, signs, finials, hooks, wall art, nests & eggs, cloches, candles & so much more. Loads of jewelry, scarves, tote bags & tees. Pansies & other greens potted up by Jan in interesting containers. We've also have some great vintage treasures that I totally love & I hope you do too!

The store transformation is progress & I just love the merchandise mix we have to share with you! This is my favorite time of year!!! I will post some pictures early next week once things get set to give you a little preview. And don't fret if you can't make it the first day of the sale, I will be adding new items each day.

Inspiration can be found anywhere. Most of these were taken at the new City Center in Las Vegas, which is amazing. I could have taken so many more but my husband was already making fun of me, especially when I had to have a picture of the cactus & little circles! The color & beauty of the mosaic design of these steps was amazing.

Every detail planned out perfectly.

Took a little roadtrip on Sunday to an amazing store, Cross Creek Antiques in Fairfax, IA. Wow, this place is amazing!!!! We were there for hours & I know we still didn't see all of the treasures that were tucked here & there & the displays were just fabulous! It's not a big place but it sure did not disappoint! And, Barb the owner, is just a gem! We could visit for hours! I cannot wait to return! Here are just a few pictures to drool over & this is just the outside! Well, I'm a little slow at getting pictures posted from the open house but as you all know, life is crazy! I can't believe how fast this month has gone! We had an amazing turnout for the open house & sold tons of stuff!!! Thanks to all that came out & made it a success, we so appreciate your business & your nice comments! And, although lots of stuff was sold, we still have lots of great stuff left!!!

Well, we survived set up for the open house & was ready for the first customers to arrive(except for a few small details that always seem to be left undone). I thought I would show you some before & after pictures. I forgot to take pics when things were really torn up but this gives you an idea of why we must close when getting ready for the Holiday Open House. It is usually hard to walk through & I always seem to break something in the process! I didn't think we would be ready but we made it & I was happy with the end result. I couldn't have done it without my trusty helper, Jan, that seems to always get the dirty work. She was in charge of the outside decorating & did a wonderful job! Then she had to clean up after me! :) Some things you can only enjoy in the pictures as they sold within the first hour today! But rest assured, there is still so much more to choose from!

This was yesterday or maybe Tuesday, the days have all ran together this week!

Yikes!

Probably my favorite display this year. Vintage tarnished silver pieces mixed with reproduction mercury glass & apothecary jars. It looked beautiful all lit up tonight. Plus the black & white tree! Love it!

Last month I went to Atlanta for market, on the hunt for some great new merchandise for the store. One of my dearest friends, Gina, started a wholesale line last July called Peacock Park Design (http://peacockparkdesign.blogspot.com) & I couldn't wait to see what amazing stuff she had added to her line. Let me tell ya, this girl never ceases to amaze me. I couldn't wait to see her new showroom, knowing it would look fabulous, & she didn't disappoint me. Her creative brain never stops. She is the queen of making something fabulous out of nothing & totally works on the fly! I took tons of pictures so I wouldn't forget a thing. We also had some gals set up outside selling a variety of "linen samples". They brought box loads of bedding, curtains, throws & more. It's time for our Annual Yard Sale!!!

This is our biggest sale of the year as I go crazy cleaning out the Nest! But, for some reason I never have enough time to get everything done that I plan but there is always lots of goodies to buy! And this year I am cleaning out my own "nest" too, as I am getting ready to move, so there will be many more other bargains to find! And another added BONUS this year...some friends will be having a "Linen Sample Sale", which includes a variety of sheets, blankets & coverlets at great prices! We will have tents set up outside plus amazing deals inside.

It's the simple things...

This is the first result of alot of sweat, body aches & a little swearing. :) This area is on the end of the barn that is next to the store & was filled with horse weeds when the project began. When it was still cool I pulled all of the horse weeds(I wish I had a before picture) then between the rains the bed was rototilled & yesterday in the 95 degree heat I covered it with mulch. Although I really didn't have the time, I couldn't leave it without doing a little display!!! Let me tell you I was in my happy place fixing this up! I have bigger ideas for this new space including adding more perennials & more junk which I will share with you as the space progresses. (And, yes, all of the "junk" you see is for sale!) I can't tell you how many times I have imagined how cool this area could be but I could never get ahead of those darn horse weeds! The funny thing is no one can really see this area unless they wander into the backyard of the store, so I guess it is more for me to enjoy. :) So any of you stopping by feel free to wander! Don't ya just love the old rusted tin!!!

Just thought I'd share a few of my favorite things that I have in the store right now.

Where do I start, I think I love everything in this picture!

I just have to say, I love everything metal! Rusty, galvanized in any shape or form, I just love it! This was meant to be used as a candle holder but love it planted with the licorice vine!

LOVE IT! What more can I say about this huge metal finial! And the cloches...definitely another favorite! And those pictures on the wall are so cool. I will have to show them in another blog post.

And if this isn't the cutest little conservatory! The top part comes off for easy access to start those little seedlings or create a wonderful display inside!

This miniature garden is just sweet! Ever since I was little I have always had an obsession for little things. I just couldn't pass up all of these cute little garden miniatures!

A mother/daughter team started this line of tees a year ago & we just had to have them!!! They have a vintage look & feel & are super soft!

These are becoming one of our hottest sellers!

The garden that surrounds the entrance to The Nest is so beautiful in the Spring. I had to share some photos I took this week.

The Allium Bulbs are at their peak right now. They continue to multiply & are just breathtaking. These were planted by my husband's Grandmother years ago. She lived here for many years.

Where do I begin...

Wow, I don't know where to start! I have been told by many that I must start a blog for The Nest. After many weeks of procrastination(which I am the queen of) I am finally writing my first post. Although this blog is about my store, The Nest, I want to introduce myself, since I will be the one doing all of the writing. My name is Amy & I am the owner of The Nest. I feel writing is not my best asset so I will do my best at creating this blog. I have been inspired as I have followed many amazing blogs and hope I can create a following as so many of you have. My goal is to let people know all about my little "Nest" & maybe a little about myself, make some new friends & hopefully create some inspiration along the way. So wish me luck & here I go into blogland! (This picture was taken by my 3 yr old daughter, it is not my best, as I am not a fan of my picture being taken, but I always like to have a face with a name so here you have it!)
